Melatonin
Melatonin is a food supplement that contains 1 mg of melatonin in each orodispersible tablet, a simple, comfortable and effective way to consume this ingredient.
A good night's sleep is one in which the duration of sleep has been sufficient to provide the process of homeostatic restoration of both physical and mental health. Sleep cycles
When you sleep, you go through a cycle of two sleep phases: rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM sleep. The latter, in turn, consists of three stages:

- Stage 2: By the time you reach stage 2, you are asleep.
- Stage 3: deep sleep or slow wave sleep, due to a specific pattern that appears in measurements of brain activity.
The entire cycle restarts every 80 to 100 minutes and typically goes through 4 to 6 cycles per night.
Melatonin: the sleep hormone
Melatonin is a hormone produced by the body commonly known as the sleep hormone, because it is responsible for regulating day-night cycles or sleep-wake cycles (stage 1 of non-REM sleep).
Its scientific name is N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine and it is synthesized from an essential amino acid, tryptophan, passing through serotonin.
Factors that modulate endogenous melatonin production
- Endogenous: both stress and age seem to be elements that can cause a reduction in melatonin production.
- Environmental: mainly formed by the photoperiod (seasons of the solar cycle), the seasons of the year and the environmental temperature.
The physiological function of melatonin, produced by the pineal gland, is to inform the retina about daily patterns of light and dark.

Melatonin contributes:
- To the reduction of the time necessary to fall asleep. The beneficial effect is obtained with an intake of 1 mg of melatonin shortly before going to sleep.
- To relieve the subjective feeling of jet lag. The beneficial effect is obtained with a minimum intake of 0.5 mg that should be taken shortly before going to bed on the first day of travel and a few days after arrival at your destination.
